James Stirling Buildings and Projects
James Stirling Michael Wilford and Associates
1984

This handsome monograph may well be considered yet another tribute to James Stirling. Meticulously researched, the book documents Stirling’s projects, built and unbuilt, with almost 1000 photographs, plans and drawings, 203 of them in brilliant colour. Among the works presented are his ‘glass skin and tile’ structures; the Engineering School at Leicester College, called (by John Jacobus) ‘one of the ten or twelve most crucial buildings in the history of modern architecture’, the museum in Cologne and Stuttgart; the scientific Institute in Berlin; the Turner Gallery at the Tate Museum; the three University structures in America at Rice, Harvard and Columbia and of course his very first built project in partnership with James Gowan: Langham House Close.
